Mastiff in Dramatic Beach Rescue

Posted in Mastiffs on May 23rd, 2008 by danny

arnold mastiffArnold, an elderly St Bernard-mastiff cross, had taken the steps down to the enclosed cove of Whipsiderry beach near Newquay, Cornwall, south-east England.

But when the time came to leave the beach, and the tide was coming in and night falling, the 15 stone dog just could not face the climb back up the 130 steep steps to safety.

His worried owner contacted the Coastguard service, but when they arrived they also failed to persuade Arnold to climb the steps. They then summoned the lifeboat, and improvising a fisging net as a body sling, they managed to carry Arnold into the lifeboat, which then ferried him and one very relieved owner to safety at nearby Porth beach.
